Successful candidates will be recruited to a permanent post if they already have a substantive HT post and/or hold the Standard for Headship (through the SQH or Into Headship programmes). Successful candidates yet to achieve the Standard for Headship will be offered a temporary contract until such time as they successfully complete the now mandatory Into Headship programme, which must be within the nationally agreed timeframe of 30 months from appointment.
Yester Primary School and Nursery Class is a rural school situated in the village of Gifford, East Lothian. Built in 1958, the school has 7 classrooms, an assembly hall and a large multi-purpose space. We are very proud of our school grounds and wider community. We utilise our outdoor space to provide quality outdoor learning experiences for all our learners. Excellent community links with Gifford Woods ensures that all children have access to a stimulating outdoor learning experience within their local community. Gifford Woods also offers Forest Schools experience for all P2 pupils and additional groups. The school serves not only the community of Gifford but the surrounding villages of Garvald, Morham, Bolton and Long Yester.
We are a school that is very well supported by our local community with an active and supportive Parent Council who value working closely with all stakeholders to make our school the best that it can be.

The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of both Schools to the benefit of the pupils and the communities they serve, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by East Lothian Council under the overall direction of the Executive Director, Education and Children's Services.
