NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

Band 3- Senior Pharmacy Support Worker (Primary Care)

Glasgow City North East HSCP

Pharmacy Prescribing Team

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Glasgow City (North East) HSCP for a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Support Worker, to join our Primary Care Pharmacy Team.

As a Senior Pharmacy Support worker you will play a vital role in helping prescribing teams deliver the GGC pharmacotherapy service across North East Glasgow. You will undertake routine tasks which will require a degree of technical expertise under the supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

1. This is a permanent, full-time post of 36 hours per week.
2. The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00
3. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an initial assessment centre at the Calton Heritage and Learning Centre, 423 London Rd, Glasgow G40 1AG (date tbc). Those successful at progressing to the second, interview stage, will be required to attend for interview on Wednesday 10th June 2026.

Key responsibilities:

4. To support the Primary Care Pharmacy Team in pharmacotherapy activities and the promotion of cost-effective prescribing and implementation of cost-effective initiatives.
5. The role will include prescription management within GP practices and provide organisational support to the cluster and/ or HSCP pharmacy team members.
6. To undertake Level 1 (non-clinical) medication reviews following an agreed protocol, highlighting issues (such as non-concordance) to pharmacy technicians and pharmacists and suggesting resolutions to agreed issues (such as dose alignment).
7. Working to standard operating procedures to facilitate medicines reconciliation and making changes to patient records.
8. In partnership with pharmacy team and GP practice colleagues to consider, agree and implement improvements to practice prescription (acute and repeat) processes.
9. Act as first point of contact for queries from community pharmacy, triaging to appropriate colleagues or resolving where possible to agreed protocols.

Be point of contact for the pharmacy team on areas such as supply problems, issues with prescriptions. The role will be to triage the information to the most appropriate member of staff

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential Criteria

10. Previous or current experience working with medicines and/ or in a healthcare environment.
11. Excellent written and verbal skills (Standard Grade English or equivalent as a minimum).
12. Computer literate with good general IT skills eg Word and Excel and ability to learn new systems.
13. Problem solving ability.
14. Demonstrates and maintains high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
15. Ability to maintain utmost confidentiality regarding GP practice and patient information.
16. Recognise limits of own role and understand when and who to refer to when necessary.
17. Able to manage own workload, which may include working alone, under direction of senior team members, as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

Desirable criteria

18. Driving license due to travel requirements.
