This is a rare and exciting opportunity to work in the Alcohol Related Brain Damage unit (ARBD) based at Milestone House, Edinburgh. ARBD provides a short-stay residential service accepting admissions from hospital settings. The service focus is to improve patients’ cognitive impairment, promote recovery and organise discharge with community-based support. The aim is to optimise the patient’s chances of returning home however some people may require longer term alternatives.
The successful candidate will work with residents in ARBD and also facilitate community group interventions aimed at supporting the transition between residential and community living, and will have close links with occupational therapists working in a range of addictions and mental health teams and services in Edinburgh.
The Occupational Therapist will bring a broad knowledge base around many health conditions and the impact of social factors on the individual, aiming to explore the impact of alcohol on an individual’s life, and how their occupational participation has been affected by use of alcohol. Working jointly with the individual occupational therapy can address physical, cognitive, emotional, mental health and social issues, and support decision-making around discharge location and support required.
The successful candidate will have leadership and innovation skills and be able to work alone and as part of a multi-professional/ multi-agency team. Excellent team-working skills, enthusiasm and energy are essential assets.
