We are looking to recruit a friendly, enthusiastic qualified Dispenser to join our team at Coleford Medical Practice. There is likely to be an opportunity to increase hours temporarily to cover maternity leave should this be of interest.
Main duties of the job
To deliver a high standard of dispensing services and provide front of hour and front of house contact with patients, relatives, and carers relating to all dispensing matters.
Being responsible for ensuring the correct medication is handed out to the correct patient at all times.
The successful candidate will possess a level 2 NVQ Dispensary Assistant qualification.
About us
We are a large, friendly team of clinical and non-clinical staff working over 3 sites.
We have 5 GP partners, 3 salaried GPs, and a team of practice nurses, RNA/TNAs, phlebotomists, management, dispensers, and administrators/care navigators.
We all put patient care first in whichever role we hold.
Job responsibilities
Ensure all patients are treated with dignity and respect, using appropriate telephone and face-to-face manners to promote a positive image of the Practice.
Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and visitors, whether face-to-face, by telephone, or upon request from the GP Partners, Head Dispenser/Dispensary Manager, or Practice Manager.
Check all medicines and appliances dispensed against prescriptions, consulting with the doctor if there is any doubt about appropriateness, dose, or labelling instructions.
Collect prescription charges, ensuring patient declarations are completed and signed.
Issue invoices for private services and drugs, recording transactions appropriately.
Handle all monies securely, maintaining records of financial transactions.
Endorse prescription forms, bundle, and forward them securely to the PPA for processing and reimbursement, following current guidelines.
Place daily medication orders with suppliers, maintaining associated paperwork.
Forward supplier invoices and correspondence to the appropriate manager.
Notify the doctor of any FP10 returns or feedback for remedial action.
Operate stock control to ensure continuity and minimize wastage, storing drugs appropriately.
Maintain hygiene standards in the dispensary, including cleaning and equipment maintenance.
Respond promptly to drug alerts and ensure refrigerated items are stored at correct temperatures with proper records.
Maintain accurate dispensing records, utilizing computer systems when available.
Undertake tasks such as repeat dispensing and stock checks independently.
Participate in audits, schemes, and training as required, including covering all dispensing duties delegated by management.
Attend meetings and training sessions, and secure the building after hours.

Maintain high standards in accuracy and adherence to SOPs, with a good understanding of medicine ethics, the GMS Contract, QOF, and DSQS.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
* Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Dispensing Assistant or equivalent
* Educated to 'A' level standard
Experience
* Experience of dealing with the public/patients
* Experience of IT systems and dispensing
* Experience in primary or secondary care settings
* Experience with SystmOne or similar clinical systems
