Job Summary
The Band 7 Community Midwife Team Leader provides visible, professional leadership within the community midwifery service, acting as a positive role model and offering effective managerial support in complex and sensitive situations. The post holder coordinates high‑quality, safe and responsive care across a 24/7 service, including senior midwifery support for planned and unplanned homebirths as required. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, the Team Leader ensures clear communication, continuity of care and contributes to service development by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and enhance the patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and oversee duty rotas to ensure equitable staffing and appropriate skill mix across all shifts, monitoring staffing levels and escalating concerns to the Manager on Call as needed.
* Run the service day‑to‑day, allocating resources and planning annual leave to maintain safe service delivery.
* Lead on improving team dynamics, managing conflict, and fostering a cohesive and supportive working environment.
* Identify areas for service improvement, gather relevant data, and develop proposals to support service enhancement and innovation within the community midwifery setting.
* Travel as required; a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable.
Qualifications
Essential
* Registered midwife with current NMC registration and evidence of ongoing education.
Desirable
* Managerial/Leadership qualifications.
Experience
Essential
* Relevant experience as a Band 6.
* Experience in managing a ward or equivalent area.
* Experience in both low and high risk care.
Desirable
* Experience of managing people and involvement in Clinical Audit.
* Experience in both hospital and community settings.
Skills
Essential
* Ability to provide leadership and coordinate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Demonstrates understanding of role boundaries.
Knowledge
Essential
* Knowledge of statutory regulations governing nursing and midwifery.
* Knowledge of evidence‑based practice and relevant theoretical frameworks.
