About Us
We are a nurturing and therapeutic children's residential home supporting young people aged [7–17] with emotional and behavioural needs. Our home is built on trauma-informed practice, providing safety, consistency and positive relationships to help young people heal, grow and thrive.
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and dedicated Waking Night Support Worker to join our team.
The Role
As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing and emotional security of our young people throughout the night.
You will:
* Provide a safe, calm and supportive environment overnight
* Complete regular welfare checks and ensure safeguarding procedures are followed
* Respond appropriately to emotional distress or challenging behaviours using trauma-informed approaches
* Record clear, accurate and detailed night logs
* Support with morning routines where required
* Maintain professional boundaries while building trusting relationships
* Work in partnership with the wider care team
* There will be an element of lone working within this role
Our Approach – Trauma-Informed Care
We recognise that many of our young people have experienced adverse childhood experiences and developmental trauma. Our team:
* Understands behaviour as communication
* Prioritises emotional regulation and co-regulation
* Avoids punitive approaches
* Promotes psychological safety and attachment-informed care
* Uses restorative and reflective practice
Experience in trauma-informed care, PACE, attachment theory or therapeutic parenting models is highly desirable.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
* Experience working with children and young people in residential care or a similar setting
* Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
* Ability to remain calm under pressure
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Flexibility to work waking night shifts including weekends
* Hold Full UK Driving License
Desirable:
* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards)
* Training in trauma-informed practice
* Experience supporting young people with emotional behavioural difficulties
