Overview
AMU and the Acute Care of the Elderly Unit are looking for an enthusiastic health care assistant who wants to make a difference. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the qualified nurses to meet the basic nursing needs of the patients in their care, as well as working from their own initiative and thriving in a fast-paced working environment.
You will need to have outstanding communication skills. You will be part of a team of fellow HCSWs, physician's assistants, qualified nurses and nurse practitioners, junior doctors and consultants. You will be expected to communicate with these members of the team along with liaising with ward clerks on admissions, transfers and discharges.
Responsibilities
* Meeting patients\' hygiene and toileting needs.
* Serving meals and assisting patients to eat and drink.
* Taking and recording vital observations, including blood glucose levels.
* Maintaining stock levels and PPE.
* Assisting with wound dressings, disposing of hazardous waste safely and correctly.
* Documenting in patients notes.
Qualifications
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
* Previous experience in a hospital/acute setting is beneficial but applications from those without hospital care experience are welcome.
* A good standard of literacy and numeracy due to documentation of patient skin observations and vital signs.
