Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced individual to join the Occupational Therapy Team at Robert Gordon University. You will join our progressive, creative team of Occupational Therapists in the delivery and ongoing development of our integrated Master of Occupational Therapy course, the first to be validated in the UK.

Our multi professional School of Health is situated in a modern, purpose-built building with state-of-the-art teaching facilities which support the authentic, practical and applied ethos of our course delivery.

Within this role you will have the opportunity to:

Contribute to the development, preparation and delivery of teaching and assessment material whilst informing the development of the wider curriculum across the occupational therapy portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Contribute to teaching and assessment on related courses both within the School of Health and the wider University.

Develop close links with a wide range of practice-based learning settings providing support to both practice educators and students to ensure the course demands continue to be reflective and responsive to current and future service provision.

Develop and sustain community engagement and simulated practice-based learning experiences.

Be supported to identify and actively engage in scholarship, research and knowledge exchange with service partners and agencies. Development of a personal research profile and contribution to the research base of the School of Health is an expectation of all academic staff.

Expectations of the candidate:

A degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy and ideally have or be working towards an appropriate postgraduate qualification.

Innovative with excellent interpersonal skills, reflecting an interprofessional approach to academic and professional development.

Recent relevant practice experience, and of particular relevance in the areas of mental health or community practice.

Evidence of ongoing continued professional development

Teaching experience, student support and robust IT skills would be beneficial.

Grade 7 Salary Scale: £39,906 - 46,049 (pro rata for part time)
Grade 8 Salary Scale: £47,389 56,535 (pro rata for part time)
Salary on appointment will be dependent upon experience.

Candidates with limited or no prior experience as an academic will be placed on the first point of the Grade 7 scale. Consideration will be given to offering an Academic Attraction Payment (adjusted annually) for those candidates who have specific industry knowledge, skills or, expertise which are required for the position.

JOB DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBLE TO: Dean of School

RESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibility

PURPOST OF POST: To contribute to the development, delivery and coordination of a portfolio of sustainable learning and education development activities and learning experiences for students.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

- Carries out designated teaching (via lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, laboratory work, e-learning, situated learning and community visits, practicals etc) and assessment duties in areas of expertise, or as otherwise required by the Principal Lecturer.

- Participates in the development and preparation of teaching materials.

- Provides tutorial and personal guidance for students.

- Supervises undergraduate and postgraduate projects.

- Develops and maintains expertise in subject areas.

- Participates in subject, course and module development.

- Participates in curriculum development and, in particular, contributes to the introduction of new methods of teaching and learning.

- Undertakes appropriate administrative responsibilities (eg year tutor, student selection, examination organisation, placement organisation, timetabling, maintaining attendance records etc).

- Promotes and markets the School and its courses to local, national and international clientele (including student recruitment). This may include career fairs, open days etc.

- Maintains working relationships with other Schools/Departments/Units within the University, as necessary, for the smooth operation and continued development of the School and its courses.

- Actively participates in and suggests relevant staff development activities.

- Actively pursues and/or encourages research activities (eg writing for publication, developing own research, supervising research students, establishing externally funded research projects, presenting at conferences etc).

- Engages with other staff, wherever possible, in consultancy activities relevant to the School.

- Establishes and maintains relevant professional and industrial links, as necessary, for the effective operation of the School's course (eg engagement in work of external bodies, educational and professional).

- Represents the School on relevant University committees and the School and University on external committees.

- Carries out such other related duties as required.
