Locum Consultant Gynaecologist - (Gynaecological Oncology Unit)

The Gynaecological Oncology Department is looking for a full‑time Locum Consultant for 8 weeks in Gynaecology with an interest in Gynaecological Oncology. The post holder will be expected to provide specialist Gynaecological Oncology unit services at Guy's and St Thomas' sites. Experience and a demonstrated ability of diagnosing Gynaecological Malignancy, performing out‑patient ambulatory management of women with abnormal vaginal bleeding, diagnostic and therapeutic colposcopy, diagnostic surgery to identify gynaecological malignancy. Experience of research, audit and working within a well‑established Gynaecological Oncology multidisciplinary team will be a requirement for the post.

Main duties of the job
This job is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average to be carried out on Guy's & St Thomas' sites and includes on‑call commitments and Saturday work.
This post will provide the appointee with extensive experience in the Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) service.

About us
The team provides tertiary gynaecological oncology surgery for South East London (catchment area 2.1 million), unit level diagnosis and management of women with gynaecological malignancy and diagnostic and therapeutic colposcopy for women living in Lambeth and Southwark. The team are due to move from women's services to the surgical oncology directorate. The outpatient diagnostic two week wait Rapid Access clinics and Colposcopy clinics are co‑located with the benign gynaecology outpatient clinics. The team has many areas of special interest including minimally invasive and fertility sparing surgery, ultra‑radical ovarian cancer surgery, sentinel node surgery, the use of ultrasound to diagnose malignant ovarian masses, inherited genetic risk and specialist vulval disease clinics. The two week wait clinics operate a one stop model with same day ultrasound, and ambulatory hysteroscopy - diagnostic and therapeutic, vulval, vaginal and cervical biopsies.
Job responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Provide High Quality Care to Patients – the post holder must be medically qualified, maintain GMC specialist registration, and hold a licence to practice.
- Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.

- Research, Teaching and Training – provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the department.
- Performance Management – work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in clinical efficiency, quality of outcomes, financial management, operational efficiency.
- Governance – review clinical outcomes, participate in audit, incident reporting and analysis, ensure NICE requirements reviewed and implemented, maintain clinical guidelines and protocols, keep fully informed about best practice.
- Leadership and Team Working – demonstrate leadership skills, work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team, resolve conflict, adhere to Trust/departmental guidelines on leave.
Person Specification
Clinical Experience
- Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to a UK CCT.
- BSCCP Accreditation/ATSM Colposcopy.
- ATSM/SITM Gynaecological Oncology or prior experience working in a Gynaecological Oncology Unit post.
- Experience in Benign abdominal surgery – open and laparoscopic.
- Experience in Benign Gynaecological Surgery – Hysteroscopy.
- Training in advanced ultrasound skills for assessment of pelvic masses.
- Subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology.
Professional Criteria
- Full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practice. Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the AAC MRCOG or equivalent specialist qualification.
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register.
Clinical Skills
- A commitment to and evidence of multidisciplinary practice.

- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and their carers/relatives.

- Understanding of principles of audit and its use to drive service improvement.
- Experience of service innovation and/or development.
- Experience of managing clinical governance targets such as CNST.
- Experience of achieving quality targets such as CQIN, KC65.
Research, Teaching skill & experience
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
- Research experience with documentation of publications and experience of contributing to clinical trials.
- Successful completion of recognised educational supervision training within last 3 years.
- Communication – ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; build rapport, listen, persuade/negotiation.
- Accountability – ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority.
