Childcare Assistant
Childcare Assistant (Level 2 or Level 3 qualified) positions at Sunshine Day Nursery, part of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Closing date: 18 May 2026.
These roles are located at Royal Hallamshire Hospital (2 positions) and Northern General Hospital (1 position). Each site provides year‑round childcare to NHS and hospital staff, caring for up to 144 children in baby, toddler and pre‑school units, with extended opening hours (6:30 am to 7 pm). The Northern General site also offers a school holiday club.
Responsibilities
* Providing an interesting and stimulating environment that is well organised and facilitates independence and resourcefulness for the children.
* Developing quality activities and role‑play situations, inside and outside, that provide an inclusive and stimulating environment.
* Providing excellent care and educational opportunities for the children within your care.
* Contributing to the organisation, preparation and collection of resources in the nursery.
* Planning and implementing activities and experiences appropriate for children of all ages and stages of development using the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and Ofsted guidelines.
* Preparing children’s work for display, ensuring that it is well presented and promotes self‑esteem.
* Providing information displays for parents and carers.
Qualifications
* Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years/Childcare qualification.
* Literacy and numeracy skills to Level 2 (e.g., NVQ 2 in Childcare/Education or equivalent).
* General IT skills.
* Safeguarding Certificate.
* First Aid Certificate.
Experience and Skills
* Relevant experience within a day‑care/childcare setting.
* Experience in EYFS and curriculum planning.
* Awareness of child development, health and hygiene.
* Knowledge of safeguarding children.
* Interest in working with children and families within a childcare setting.
* Ability to provide good quality care with compassion, commitment and competence.
* Respectful communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Effective organisational skills.
* Teamworking ability and partnership with parents and outside agencies.
* Understanding of the role of a Nursery Practitioner.
* Understanding of confidentiality requirements in a childcare setting.

* Willingness to undertake training as required by the post.
