Some key information This is a hybrid role with a requirement to attend County Hall at least one day a fortnight for team collaboration. 30 days annual leave, in addition to bank holidays. You will assume a senior role within the council’s Cyber Security team. The team operates on a rota basis, covering cyber security functions within the detect, prevent and respond framework. This is a full-time, permanent role of 37 hours per week, covering hours between 08:00 and 18:00. What will I be doing? We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset – and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve: As a Senior Engineer within the Security Operations Team, you will work predominantly in the Identity and Access Management (IAM) specialism, designing, implementing, and managing identity and access controls and policies across both cloud and on-premise environments. You will work with a range of technologies, with a strong focus on Microsoft products such as Active Directory (including Group Policy and Certificate Services), Entra ID (including Enterprise Applications and Application Registrations, Privileged Identity Management, and Conditional Access), and Intune (including Configuration Policies), applying RBAC to ensure least-privilege access and compliance with internal security policies. You will collaborate with Security Operations and wider ICT colleagues to enforce access control policies and respond to identity-related incidents, with a strong focus on trust and reputation (including managing PKI certificates) and reporting. You will demonstrate a keen interest in cyber security and contribute to the day-to-day operational success of the Cyber Security and IAM & AD teams, while also having a voice in security strategy and planning. What kind of experience or qualifications do I need? We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you: Have proven experience in IAM technologies and frameworks with a strong understanding of Active Directory, Entra ID, and cloud identity platforms. Are familiar with access governance, compliance, and audit requirements. Have the ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
