We are looking for a compassionate, dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team at a specialist SEND provision in Leeds. Working with primary-aged pupils with a range of SEND needs, you will help create a supportive and safe learning environment where each child can thrive. This role involves collaborating closely with classroom teachers and other professionals to provide personalised support, both in individual and group settings.
Key Responsibilities:
-Provide tailored support to individual pupils and small groups, helping them engage and progress with their learning.
-Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement individualised learning plans.
-Promote social skills, independence, and self-confidence among pupils.
-Support emotional and behavioural needs with patience and compassion.
-Contribute to a positive, inclusive classroom environment that meets each child’s unique needs.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
-Experience with SEND in a school or care setting, supporting children or adults with additional needs. Classroom experience is beneficial.
-Background in care work or similar field; ideally holding or working towards a university degree or teaching assistant qualification (though not essential for candidates with strong experience).
-Personal Qualities: Patient, compassionate, proactive, and caring, with a genuine commitment to supporting children’s growth.
-Team Player: Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, showing flexibility and a readiness to adapt as needed.
Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday (part-time applications considered)

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
