Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice is revolutionising how pharmaceutical care is delivered, and we are looking for a Prescription Technician to be part of that transformation. If you're passionate about person-centred care and want to make a real difference in patients' lives, this is your opportunity to join a forward-thinking team.
We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our hardworking and welcoming GP Practice as an Administrator, providing vital support to our dedicated Pharmacy Team. This is a 12-month maternity cover role, with the possibility of future opportunities for the right candidate. The role is part-time, approximately 20 hours per week, spread across Monday to Friday. We are happy to offer flexibility to accommodate other commitments or responsibilities.
You will be at the heart of our clinical operations, helping ensure the smooth running of pharmacy-related administrative tasks. From handling prescription queries to supporting medication reviews, your work will directly contribute to patient safety and the efficiency of our practice.
This role comes with full training, so no formal qualifications are required. However, previous experience in a pharmacy or GP practice would be preferable, but what matters most is your enthusiasm, reliability, and willingness to learn.
This position offers valuable insight into both pharmacy and GP practice settings and is ideal for anyone considering a future career in healthcare administration or pharmacy support.
Main duties of the job
As a vital member of our Pharmacy Support function, you'll be trained to contribute to safe, efficient, and cost-effective prescribing across the practice. Your core duties will include:
* Prescription Management: Process routine and monthly prescriptions, ensuring accuracy, adherence, and timely turnaround.
* Clinical Support: Monitor high-risk medications, identify required blood tests and reviews, and escalate to clinicians as needed.
* Patient & Staff Liaison: Respond to medicines-related queries from patients, carers, and clinical colleagues, covering interactions, availability, urgent requests, and more.
* Medication Reconciliation: Review hospital discharge summaries and reconcile prescriptions, flagging discrepancies for correction.
* Governance & Safety: Promote safe medication use, report incidents, and support safeguarding efforts.
* System Expertise: Use prescribing and dispensing systems to troubleshoot issues and support staff development.
* Pharmacist Collaboration: Work closely with pharmacists to review medications and recommend prescribing changes that enhance patient outcomes.
