Junior / Imaging Scientist
Location: Oxfordshire (On-site)
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Help shape the future of 3D medical imaging
We are working with an innovative deep-tech company developing next-generation 3D X-ray imaging technology designed to make advanced diagnostic imaging more accessible, affordable and deployable at the point of care.
Following years of successful R&D, the organisation is now entering an exciting phase as its technology moves from research into real-world clinical deployment and manufacturing scale-up.
As part of this growth, they are looking for a Junior Imaging Scientist (or Imaging Scientist) to join their multidisciplinary R&D team in Oxfordshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career — whether a recent graduate or PhD holder in physics, engineering, imaging science, or a related field — to contribute to the development of cutting-edge imaging systems that have real clinical impact.
The Role
You will work alongside experienced scientists and engineers to analyse, develop and optimise 3D X-ray imaging techniques, contributing to the continued evolution of a novel imaging platform.
Your work will support the development of imaging applications across a range of domains including:
* Orthopaedics
* Dental imaging
* Veterinary diagnostics
* Industrial / non-destructive testing
The role offers the chance to work across the full R&D cycle — from experimental design and image analysis to prototype development and collaboration with clinical and commercial teams.
You’ll be joining a highly collaborative team environment where curiosity, scientific rigour and hands-on experimentation are valued.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, plan and execute imaging experiments to evaluate and demonstrate system performance
* Analyse experimental data to assess image quality and guide product development decisions
* Support the development and refinement of 3D X-ray and tomosynthesis imaging techniques
* Develop prototype tools and scripts for image processing, analysis and visualisation
* Work closely with senior imaging scientists and engineers during system development and testing
* Contribute to research activities including literature review and exploration of new imaging approaches
* Support demonstrations and evaluations with internal teams and external collaborators
* Contribute to the generation of new ideas and intellectual property
Candidate Profile
This role would suit someone who enjoys working at the intersection of science, engineering and real-world application.
You should be comfortable working in a hands-on experimental environment and motivated by solving complex imaging problems.
Candidates may come from academic research or early industry experience.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Degree (BSc/MSc/PhD) in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Imaging Science, or a related discipline
* Programming experience in Python or C++
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Experience analysing scientific or experimental data
* Ability to design and execute experiments independently
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
Desirable Experience
* Image processing or computer vision
* Machine learning applied to imaging or scientific data
* Knowledge of X-ray imaging, CT, tomosynthesis or medical imaging physics
* Image reconstruction techniques
* Experience working with scientific computing tools or imaging libraries
Why This Role is Interesting
* Work on cutting-edge imaging technology moving from research to real clinical use
* Join a growing deep-tech company at a pivotal stage of commercialisation
* Collaborate with experts across physics, engineering, software and clinical domains
* Gain exposure to the full lifecycle of imaging system development
