Mechanical Project Manager
Location: Barnsley
Salary: £55,000 – £75,000
Due to continued growth and expansion, an established engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join their Mechanical Handling division based in Barnsley.
This is a key leadership role, responsible for delivering complex, multidisciplinary turnkey engineering projects from tender through to commissioning.
The Role
As Mechanical Project Manager, you will take full ownership of high-value engineering projects, leading cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery on time, within budget, and to specification.
You will play a critical role in both the tendering and execution phases, working closely with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to deliver technically complex mechanical handling solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects from tender stage through to commissioning
* Lead project planning, coordination, and execution to meet programme, budget, and quality targets
* Support and contribute to the preparation of estimates, tenders, and technical specifications
* Manage and coordinate internal engineering teams and external suppliers
* Act as the key point of contact for clients, ensuring strong relationships and clear communication
* Ensure compliance with contractual, statutory, and regulatory requirements
* Monitor project performance and drive continuous improvement
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience managing complex mechanical engineering or turnkey projects
* Strong background in mechanical handling systems, large moving structures, or heavy engineering
* Experience managing engineering teams and coordinating multidisciplinary projects
* Knowledge of project and contract management, including NEC or similar contract frameworks
* Experience in estimating and tendering processes
* HNC/HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
* Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
* Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organisational skills
* Good understanding of relevant legislation and standards, including the European Machinery Directive
