About the Pipe Fitter
This is a full‑time, permanent position. As a Pipe Fitter you will be responsible for stainless steel dairy tube pipe fitting including reading and interpreting engineering blueprints. You will take on steelwork fabrication and welding activities, both planned and reactive maintenance, and ensure facilities are maintained in compliance with company processes, design and maintenance standards.
Nearly all of our work is hygienic stainless steel dairy tube pipe work for the brewing industry. We install and commission equipment for a wide variety of customers who are based across the UK and Europe, so travel and overnight stays are frequent. SSV Limited covers expenses while you’re away from home, including accommodation and meals.
Responsibilities of the Pipe Fitter
* Read blueprints and technical drawings to determine the layout of piping systems and install them, cutting, bending, and joining pipes as needed.
* Install and assemble carbon steel and stainless steel pipe systems on customer sites across the UK and Europe, and in our workshop in Leeds.
* Cut, thread, and bend pipes using hand and power tools.
* Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
* Weld thin wall stainless steel dairy tube and (SS) schedule tube welding.
* Preparing vessels and equipment for NDT inspection.
* Providing technical and troubleshooting support for mechanical matters, including breakdowns.
* Working safely and within the requirements of all SSV RAMS.
* Complying with safe work systems and maintenance procedures.
* Providing on‑the‑job guidance, support and training to junior team members.
Qualifications and Experience Required
* At least five years of experience of pipe fitting and welding, with TIG welding experience necessary.
* Proficiency in planning pipe and service routes to provide a hygienic, efficient and aesthetically pleasing pipe design.
* Ability to read and understand pipework schematics and engineering drawings.
* Must be able to interpret technical drawings to understand project specifications.
* Ability to troubleshoot and repair pipe systems to ensure optimal performance.
* Experience with primarily stainless steel grades in butt and fillet welds with or without filler materials from groups FM1, FM2.
* Experience in a range of pipe diameters from 25 mm to 300 mm and for fillets from 0.8 mm to 12 m in all positions PA, PC, PE, PF, PG (6G).
* Able to conduct visual testing of welds as per ISO 17637.
* Must have a UK driving licence and not more than 6 penalty points.
* Able to work in a physically demanding role which requires work in various environments and in confined spaces.
