Job Title: Windows Server Project Manager
Location: London, United Kingdom (Hybrid)
length: 3 - 6 Months (likely to be extended)
Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 dependent on experience
We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Windows Server Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of a large-scale server upgrade programme. This role is critical in ensuring server environments remain secure, supported, and compliant with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
You will be responsible for planning and executing upgrades across data centre and hybrid environments, ensuring minimal disruption to business-critical systems and services.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and manage a comprehensive project plan aligned with organisational strategy, security standards, and agreed timelines
* Lead end-to-end delivery of Windows Server upgrade activities, including estate discovery, planning, dependency management, testing, migration, and decommissioning
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Infrastructure, Operations, Applications, Architecture, and Security) to define scope, approach, and non-functional requirements
* Coordinate upgrade and migration activities, ensuring clear documentation, validated rollback plans, and approved maintenance windows
* Identify, assess, and manage risks relating to legacy systems, compatibility, availability, and security exposure
* Manage third-party vendors and partners to ensure delivery meets agreed scope, timelines, and quality standards
* Maintain project governance documentation including plans, RAID logs, dependencies, and status reporting
* Escalate risks, issues, and key decisions through appropriate governance channels
* Oversee testing and validation activities, including functional, security, and operational acceptance
* Support smooth transition into business-as-usual operations, ensuring documentation, monitoring, and support processes are in place
* Ensure secure and compliant decommissioning of legacy servers in line with asset and data management policies
Key Requirements
* Proven experience delivering infrastructure or platform upgrade projects within complex enterprise environments
* Strong track record managing Windows Server upgrade or OS refresh programmes at scale
* Solid understanding of Windows Server platforms, upgrade methodologies, and associated dependencies
* Experience working in environments with business-critical and/or regulated systems
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across technical teams and external partners
* Familiarity with IT governance, change management, and service transition frameworks
* Understanding of security, compliance, and vendor lifecycle considerations for operating systems
* Strong organisational and delivery skills, including experience maintaining project plans, RAID logs, and executive reporting
