From historic parks to departmental grounds, the team delivers high-quality horticultural services that are enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year. Working with skilled gardeners, horticulturists, and tree specialists, you’ll be part of a team that takes pride in creating and caring for some of Oxford’s most admired outdoor spaces. About the Role This is an exciting opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience while completing a Level 2 Horticulture Operative Apprenticeship through Abingdon & Witney College. You will work across a variety of sites, learning essential horticultural skills such as grounds maintenance, plant care, turf management, and landscaping. Your training will include both on-the-job learning and day-release or distance learning with the college. Working with experienced colleagues, you will learn to:
1. Maintain lawns, borders, and outdoor spaces
2. Use horticultural tools and machinery safely and effectively
3. Identify a wide range of plants
4. Support planting, pruning, and propagation activities
5. Assist with turf care and landscape work
As your skills develop, you will take on more advanced tasks such as detailed border maintenance, turf treatments, and nursery work. College attendance and successful completion of the apprenticeship qualification is an essential requirement of this role.
