Our clients, a leading engineering and utility company, are seeking a Senior Protection & Control Engineer to support the design and delivery of HV substation projects as part of a major DNO framework.
As part of the electrical design team, you will lead the development of protection and control schemes from 11kV to 132kV, covering new build, upgrade, and reinforcement projects.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and check protection & control deliverables such as single line diagrams, protection scheme drawings and wiring diagrams.
Ensure designs are in line with DNO and UK requirements.
Work with primary, civil, and control teams to produce fully integrated design packages.
Carry out short-circuit studies, protection coordination, and prepare relay settings and logic configurations for network approval.
Provide engineering oversight to ensure protection and control systems are safe, reliable, and operable.
Support FAT/SAT, and commissioning activities, confirming scheme performance and completing all handover documentation.
Oversee and review work from external consultants involved in protection & control scope.
Ideal Background & Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related fields.
Strong technical understanding of HV protection systems (11kV - 132kV).
Minimum 4 years experience working on protection and control for substations, grid connections, or transmission infrastructure.
Familiarity with automation systems and communication protocols such as IEC 61850, Modbus, or DNP3 is beneficial.
Works effectively both independently and within cross-functional engineering teams.
