Pharmacy@LTHTR has an exciting opportunity to join our Pharmacy Team as a Senior Pharmacy Technician. Whether you are an experienced hospital Pharmacy Technician, an experienced community Pharmacy Technician looking for career progression in the hospital setting, or a newly qualified Pharmacy Technician - we want to hear from YOU!
You will deputise for the Pharmacy Technician Team Leader at Preston Hospital and also focus on the training and development of our Pharmacy team members such as Assistants and Technicians.
Our ideal candidate would enjoy working in a fast paced environment; providing leadership and direction to a small team; be an accuracy checker and have excellent communication skills to build and maintain good relationship with our service users. The post is based at Royal Preston with some duties carried out at Chorley Hospital.
Main duties of the job
Responsibilities include:
1. Managing the daily workload,
2. Planning and scheduling the dispensing to meet turn around times
3. Providing leadership and management to the pharmacy team
4. Training and development of the pharmacy team
5. Point of contact for LTHTR wards and departments

Core working hours are between 9:00 and 5:30. There is also a requirement to work one Saturday or Sunday every five weeks (you’ll then get a day off the following week) and one bank holiday a year. Weekend and Bank Holiday shifts have additional pay rates. The role is based at Royal Hospital but there may be some requirement to work at Chorley Hospital

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Your role will include but is not limited to:
6. Responsible for planning, management and organisation of the supply of medicines to LTHTR wards, departments and outpatient clinics
7. Provide leadership to Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, sessional accuracy checkers and sessional Pharmacists
8. Systems administrator for Pharmacy IT systems
9. Develop structured training programmes and competency assessments documents and maintain records
10. Develop and review SOPs
11. Record and analyse KPI data
12. Datix investigations
13. Continually look for ways to improve processes
14. To contribute, implement and champion Cost Improvement Plan initiatives
15. Deputise for Dispensary Team Leader

Person specification
Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
16. Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians OR other recognised Pharmacy Technician Qualification meeting requirements for registration with GPhC
17. Registered with the GPhC with evidence of CPD and revalidation
18. A minimum of twelve months experience post qualification or willingness to complete the Band 4 to 5 Progression Training Pathway
19. Technician Accuracy Checking Certificate equivalent to the National Framework

Essential criteria
21. Relevant experience within pharmacy services including supervisory/team leadership and management experience
22. Operational experience where management and leadership qualities have been demonstrated.
23. Experience of working with patients and the multidisciplinary team
24. Staff development/training/teaching experience
25. Experience of efficient stock management systems and supply processes
26. Knowledge and experience of EMIS Pharmacy and ARX /Omnicel robot systems
27. Experience of audit and performance monitoring; collecting, analysing and presenting data and information
28. Experience of developing standard operating procedures and policies
29. Knowledge of risk management processes.
30. Awareness of medicines legislation and developments within pharmacy practice
31. Experience with service development and continuous improvement projects
