Oak Wood Primary and Secondary School are seeking to appoint a reliable, practical and proactive Assistant Site Manager to support the day-to-day management of our school premises.
This is a hands‑on role where you will act as the primary on‑site premises lead, helping to ensure the school site is safe, secure, clean and well maintained for pupils, staff and visitors. Working closely with the ICT and Facilities Manager and wider estates team, you will play a key role in maintaining the school buildings and grounds, supervising cleaning staff and contractors, and responding to day‑to‑day maintenance issues. The ICT and Facilities Manager may not be based at the school every day, therefore the successful candidate must be confident working independently and able to use their initiative to prioritise tasks and resolve issues as they arise.
Key responsibilities include:
* Carrying out day‑to‑day maintenance and repairs across the school site
* Acting as the on‑site contact for contractors and supervising works
* Supporting the management of cleaning and caretaking staff
* Ensuring the security of the premises including opening and closing the site
* Supporting health and safety compliance including routine checks and record keeping
* Assisting with school lettings and site preparation for events
* Maintaining the school grounds and external areas
* The role will involve working alongside other estates team members on a weekly rotation of early and late shifts.
We are looking for someone who:
* Has experience working in a caretaking, facilities or site maintenance role
* Has good practical maintenance skills (e.g. plumbing, decorating, basic repairs)
* Has experience supervising staff or contractors
* Has a good understanding of health and safety procedures
* Is organised, reliable and able to work independently
* Has a proactive approach to solving problems
* Holds a full driving licence
* Experience of working in a school or similar environment would be advantageous
