Band 6 Senior Therapeutic Radiographer
This is a fabulous career development opportunity for new and existing Senior Radiographers to join an innovative, friendly organisation whilst experiencing all the benefits of working in a compassionate, aspirational, resourceful and excellent NHS Trust. The Berkshire Cancer Centre at the RBFT provides fully CHKS accredited radiotherapy treatment facilities across Reading and Bracknell, including two CT scanners, four Elekta Linear Accelerators, a superficial X‑ray unit and a high‑dose brachytherapy unit. One linac is currently being replaced with a go‑live expected in March 2026. All treatment choices for patients are informed by the latest national guidance, including SABR, DIBH, VMAT and adaptive radiotherapy. Since 2020 the department has been recognised as a “Centre of Excellence” for its innovative provision of surface‑guided radiotherapy in alliance with Vision RT.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Band 7 Radiographers in delivering innovative radiotherapy services for a variety of tumour sites across the Reading and Bracknell department locations.
* Ensure that services delivered by the radiotherapy department meet the highest professional and technical standards, as per CHKS guidelines and Trust policies and procedures.
* Achieve and maintain own competencies and skills within an agreed timescale.
* Lead a team of radiographers in the absence of more senior staff.
* Uphold a patient‑centred service whilst ensuring efficiency targets are met.
* Ensure that service provision achieves compliance with the corporate and clinical governance standards required of the Trust.
* Practice as an operator within radiotherapy as defined by IR(ME)R.
* Participate in the on‑call system within the department and work appropriate shifts to meet service needs.
* Participate in the training, supervision and assessment of students and learners on clinical placement at the Berkshire Cancer Centre.
* Be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service. This may include working 37.5 hours per week between the hours of 7am and 8pm, and weekend working if required.
