About the Role “Nothing about us, without us” We have a brand new job within North Yorkshire Council to be a co-trainer in a training programme. This job is called “ expert with lived experience co-trainer ”. About the Training Programme that the Role Supports The training programme is called the Oliver McGowan training on Learning Disability and Autism. The Oliver McGowan mandatory training on Learning Disability and Autism was set up after Oliver died in a hospital. Oliver was an autistic person with a learning disability. His death might have been stopped from happening. By having someone with the lived experience be the co-trainer, the training aims to help health and social care staff to better understand the needs of people with learning disabilities and autistic people. What you can bring to the role Your lived experience and knowledge of the “dos and don’ts” for those working in support jobs Willingness to train others A friendly and positive attitude Honesty about your experience Be a Champion for Change to help healthcare workers understand the needs of people with learning disabilities and/or autism. Share Your Ideas: We value your input! Tell us how we can improve the training. Key skills Be professional, friendly and welcoming to training delegates. Be able to speak in front of a group of people you may not know about your experience Ability to read, write and use a computer. Work together with other trainers to make the training even better. Be able to help the trainer identify changes that can be made to provide a better service If you are successful, you will be provided with full training on how to do the job. Questions? We will phone you or email you using the details you have given on your application form. We will let you know the date, time and place of the interview that you have been selected for. The interviews will be held on the below key dates, you will only need to attend one. Interviews will take place in either the Civic Centre Harrogate, Castle House Scarborough, County Hall Northallerton or Civic Centre Selby.
