As a midwife, you’ll begin your journey by taking part in our accelerated preceptorship programme – guiding and supporting you on your journey to become a successful midwife.
Working across our two hospitals and within the community, you’ll have an important role to play in the care across the whole spectrum of pregnancy and birth. You will have the opportunity during your preceptorship or induction to work in all areas including Delivery Suite, community, Ante natal services and inpatient areas.
The multi-faceted nature of our Maternity Services unit means you’ll ensure families accessing our services receive excellent care, that’s tailored to their individual needs at every stage of their journey.
Responsibilities
As a Midwife, you’ll be an active part of our Improvement Programme – being a voice for positive change within our multi-disciplinary team. You’ll have a say in how we implement, deliver, and evaluate our care and you will be part of the decision-making process that drives our transformation.

Key responsibilities for preceptorship Midwives
* Communication and collaboration
o Be a powerful voice – promoting excellent and effective patient care, participating in decision-making relating to women-centred care, driving transformation and change when you see an opportunity to do so, and acting as an advocate for women and those accessing our services.
o Be a great listener – engaging with feedback, ensuring confidentiality, learning from experiences and adapting to new styles of working.
* Clinical Care
o Be an advocate – for women and those accessing our services, for colleagues who deliver excellent care, and for the Trust – working within guidelines, policies, procedures, and ethical and legal frameworks.
o Be effective – in time management and prioritisation, ensuring resources are used efficiently, continuously assessing and evaluating care delivery, and developing essential skills.
* Personal and Professional Conduct
o Be an inspiration – as a role model for junior staff and students, support personal development, and encourage the development of others to preserve collaboration at all levels.
o Be professional – by adhering to Health and Safety, administration and storage of drugs, incident reporting, infection control, safeguarding, and safekeeping of patient property.
* Research and Education
o Be curious – participate in audits and trials, share evidence-based practice, and evaluate education programmes.
o Be an educator – mentor staff and students, support leadership development, and assist in orientation of new staff or Return to Practice midwives as a preceptor.
