Every child should have the opportunity to see the Brecon Beacons, attend shows at the Bird of Prey Sanctuary, enjoy super tubing, and explore Wales's many attractions. We ensure children supported by Phoenix Learning and Care experience as many of these opportunities as possible – and we need your help.
Our children have social and emotional needs related to Autism, ADHD, or Trauma. They require good role models to help them thrive. With your support, we can make that happen. The children will face challenging days and need extra support at home, especially when overwhelmed. Your support on those days will make the good days even more special. You will see the positive impact of your relationships as the children grow.
This role involves working in a small 2-bedroom home, allowing you to build close relationships with the team and children. The children need support 24 hours a day, which means you can work your full week in 2-3 days, totaling only 10 shifts per month!
A day in the life of a Support Worker will involve:
* Supporting children to have the best quality of life possible through activities like baking, outings, or holidays. You might help ensure they have a healthy diet or take them to places like The Big Pit.
* Ensuring children are kept safe and their plans meet their needs. You'll monitor their development by maintaining accurate records and systems. Rest assured, comprehensive training will be provided.
To be a successful Support Worker, you’ll need:
* Patience, compassion, and resilience, as the children may have experienced trauma affecting their behavior.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with various people and update children's plans.
* A driving license, as you'll need to drive children to community activities. Vehicles are provided.
* Flexibility, including the ability to sleep at the home during shifts, supporting 24/7 care. This allows you to work your full week in 2-3 days.
* If you do not already hold a qualification in residential childcare, we will fund this training. You are expected to obtain this qualification within your first two years, with our ongoing support.
In return for your time, you’ll get:
* Holidays: 33 days annual leave (264 hours), with additional days off for your birthday after one year. Bank holiday work may be required.
* Pension scheme: Contributions are 5% from you and 3% from us.
* Learning & Development: Opportunities for personal and professional growth.
* Discounts: Access to discounts via Blue Light Card and our benefits platform.
* Wellbeing Support: Mental health and wellbeing resources, including confidential check-ins and group sessions.
* Cycle2Work: Scheme to buy bicycles at discounted rates.
* DBS: We cover the cost of an enhanced DBS check.
After 12 months, you will be eligible for our Medicash scheme, covering various health expenses, including access to a GP. You will also receive life assurance at twice your annual salary and additional high street discounts.
In line with safer recruitment guidelines, an online check, including social media profiles, may be conducted on the successful candidate.
At Phoenix Learning and Care, we value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can bring their true selves to work without fear of discrimination.
