Role Overview: As a Pastoral Lead, you will be at the heart of the school’s welfare provision, ensuring all students feel safe, respected, and ready to learn. Your leadership will promote emotional resilience and positive behaviour, providing essential guidance to help young people navigate school life with confidence. Job Responsibilities: Champion the emotional, social, and behavioural welfare of students, delivering personalised support and intervention programmes. Act as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns, responding promptly and professionally in line with school policies. Develop and lead initiatives that promote mental health awareness and positive relationships across the school. Collaborate with teaching staff, senior leaders, parents, and external agencies to provide joined-up support for students. Encourage student engagement and help remove barriers to attendance, learning, and social inclusion. Mentor students one-to-one and in small groups, addressing behavioural issues and promoting self-confidence and self-regulation. Keep detailed records and contribute to the creation and review of individual support plans. Support whole-school behaviour strategies and contribute to a nurturing, inclusive school culture. Job Requirements: Proven experience working in a pastoral support, behaviour mentor, or welfare role within an educational or youth setting. Deep understanding of safeguarding practices and a strong commitment to student safety and well-being. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect sensitively with students and families. Strong emotional intelligence and resilience to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively. Experience in designing and implementing targeted interventions to support students’ emotional and behavioural needs. Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and build trust within the school community. Up-to-date knowledge of social and emotional development. Have an updated CV ( covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps ) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one). Join GSL Education Today!
