Overview
This role supports safe, high‑quality radiology services at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust by strengthening assurance, consistency and learning across sites. The post holder coordinates quality, safety and governance activities within Radiology, working alongside clinical teams to identify risk, respond to incidents, embed learning and improve practice at scale.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate and deliver patient safety investigations and support staff through the process.
* Monitor actions and ensure learning is captured and shared.
* Provide support for radiation safety and IR(ME)R compliance, including coordination of radiation incidents and oversight of non‑medical referrer processes.
* Contribute to service improvement through risk management, audit support and patient feedback processes (complaints, PALS enquiries).
* Analyse data and trends across sites to target improvement activity and reduce repeat incidents.
* Work collaboratively with radiographers, radiologists, medical physics and governance teams to promote consistency, assurance and patient‑centred care.
* Undertake limited clinical work in line with professional registration, competence and service needs.
Qualifications and Experience
* HCPC registered diagnostic radiographer.
* BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent.
* Significant post‑registration experience in radiology.
* Experience of contributing to clinical governance, patient safety, audit or quality improvement.
* Ability to analyse information, identify trends and support service improvement.
* Experience of IR(ME)R roles or responsibilities.
* Experience of supporting or coordinating reviews, investigations, or service improvement activity.
* Experience of working across multiple sites or services.
* Desirable: postgraduate qualification in governance, quality improvement or leadership.
* Desirable: training in QSI, IR(ME)R updates or patient safety frameworks.
* Desirable: evidence of championing diversity in previous roles.
* Desirable: evidence of own development to improve understanding of equalities issues.
* Desirable: experience of delivering or supporting education or training activity.
People Management & Development
* Ability to provide advice, guidance and support to colleagues on governance and patient safety matters.
* Ability to contribute to training, learning and development activities.
