Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), which is part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.
As ECU Manager you will undertake varied and interesting work. You will be the strategic lead for the way we manage financial investigations ensuring we are fulfilling our obligations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). You’ll be proactive in your approach with a strong focus on continually improving and enhancing the way we work.
You’ll manage two Team Leaders (one responsible for Asset Denial Team and one for Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer. You will provide strong leadership, motivate and develop your team, and manage their performance and work delivery.
This role requires collaboration with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships and Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC). You’ll influence at a senior level to ensure the Environment Agency’s priorities are supported and recognised by other enforcement agencies.
Alongside your ECU duties, you will support the wider organisation in continually improving our processes and increasing understanding of POCA legislation. You will share lessons learned, contribute to changes in technical documentation, and advise other enforcement officers across the country.
The team
The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams – the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team. These teams include Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts. The ECU is a nationally dispersed team working with enforcement staff and partners across the country and handles serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.
Experience/skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience in leading a dispersed team
* Good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act
* Experience in one or more of the following: working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model
* Effective communication, including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building external relationships
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise a varied workload
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it
