Summary
We are looking for an experienced and qualified Construction Health & Safety Consultant to join our team at our newly formed CDC Safety department, part of CDC Group.
Responsibilities
* Safety Inspections: Conducting unannounced or scheduled site inspections to monitor compliance with the CPP and statutory requirements.
* Behavioural Audits: Moving beyond "clipboards and checklists" to assess the safety culture on-site, engaging with workers to identify why certain safe systems may be failing.
* Trend Analysis: Producing detailed digital reports for senior management, identifying recurring safety failures across multiple sites and recommending systemic improvements.
* Advising the Client: Ensuring commercial clients understand and discharge their legal duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, including the notification of projects to the HSE (via F10).
* RAMS Analysis: Reviewing and "stress-testing" Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for high-risk work such as lifting operations, piling, or working at height.
* Health & Safety File: Compiling and reviewing the H&S File throughout the project life cycle to ensure it provides the end-user with essential safety information for future maintenance or demolition.
* Policy Development: Drafting and updating bespoke Health & Safety policies and management systems (often aligned with ISO for construction companies.
* Regulatory Liaison: Assisting clients during visits from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) or Local Authority inspectors, particularly following a Notice of Improvement or Prohibition Notice.
* Competency Assessments: Verifying that contractors and site staff hold the correct industry-recognized qualifications (e.g., CSCS, CPCS, SMSTS) and have the "Skills, Knowledge, and Experience" (SKE) required for their specific roles.
* PQQ & Tender Support: Assisting construction companies in completing Health & Safety sections of Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs) and tenders to win new work.
* SSIP Accreditations: Guiding firms through the application process for safety schemes such as CHAS, SafeContractor, or Constructionline.
Qualifications
* Construction-related NEBOSH Diploma or Certificate or;
* Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Practice or;
* Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Practice or;
* Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Practice and;
* Black Managers' CSCS Card or Academically Qualified Person (AQP) CSCS Card
* At least Certified Membership with IOSH (Cert'IOSH) is mandatory.
* At least 5 years' experience as Health & Safety Manager in the Construction & Built Environment required.
Hybrid Role: A mixture of office attendance, construction site visits and working from home where applicable.
