An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate, motivated, and trauma-informed Healthcare Assistant to join our dedicated team at Dawn House, part of the Women’s Secure Blended Service (WSBS). This post offers a unique opportunity to be part of a new and innovative community step-down pathway for women transitioning from secure inpatient services back into the community.
You will play a key role in supporting the delivery of this discharge pathway pilot, extending the SCALE model of care into a community residential setting. The aim is to promote recovery beyond discharge, reduce the need for future admissions, and empower women to live fulfilling lives in the community. This project is funded for a two-year period and is central to improving outcomes for women with complex mental health and forensic histories.
As a HCA, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team including nurses, support workers, ANAWIM staff, occupational therapists, and other external partners. You will provide high-quality, person-centred care and practical support to women, helping them to build confidence, develop life skills, and achieve their individual recovery goals.
You will be based primarily at Dawn House, with some expectation to work across Tourmaline Ward at Ardenleigh to support smooth transitions from inpatient to community settings. Your role will focus on delivering least restrictive, recovery-oriented support in a safe, empowering, and respectful environment.
* Provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and recovery-focused care to women with complex needs, supporting them to develop independence and confidence in the community.
* Build and maintain therapeutic relationships that promote trust, empowerment, and engagement in recovery.
* Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues and external partners to ensure coordinated care and effective discharge pathways.
* Support service users to identify their individual needs and contribute to care planning, implementation, and review processes.
* Encourage and assist women in daily living skills, medication self‑management (following training), and participation in meaningful activities.
* Accurately record observations, interactions, and care interventions in line with organisational and professional standards.
* Act as a positive role model, promoting the values and ethos of the organisation and contributing to a supportive team culture.
* Support and, where appropriate, supervise junior staff members, students, or peer mentors.
* Promote least restrictive practices and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment at all times.
* Uphold equality, diversity, and inclusion, recognising and respecting the individual experiences and backgrounds of all service users.
