About the role
The Research Programmes Lead is a key leadership position within the Policy and Evidence Centre's (PEC) structure, responsible for overseeing and implementing the Centre's research-related activities. The role involves close collaboration with the Policy Impact Lead to deliver an integrated and coherent policy-influencing programme.
The PEC was established to produce research, evidence, and expert analysis to improve laws and policies addressing modern slavery and human trafficking, adopting a human rights-based approach. Initially an initiative of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), it was founded in 2019 with £10m of public funding from UK Research and Innovation.
Having built a reputation for high-quality, impactful research, the PEC received continued funding in 2024 to support its transition to long-term sustainability. It is now part of the University of Oxford, hosted by the Humanities Division and integrated into the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities. The Research Programmes Lead will play a vital role in this transition and in expanding its policy-influencing work in related human rights areas.
The successful candidate will manage PEC's research programmes, working collaboratively with the Director of Research, Policy Impact Lead, and supporting the PEC Programme Board. A significant aspect of the role involves assisting PEC in securing research funding through proposal development and grant management.
Candidates should have proven experience in managing complex research programmes, identifying funding opportunities, preparing bids and grant applications, and overseeing externally funded projects within the Higher Education or charitable sectors.
