Operations Manager – Scaffolding & Access | NUVIA, Abingdon-On-Thames, England, United Kingdom
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage Industrial Services (IS) delivery and work winning for a nominated location/site or framework.
* Execute the IS delivery strategy for the nominated location/site or framework, ensuring safe, secure, timely, cost‑effective, and high-quality project delivery that meets client and NUVIA objectives.
* Report monthly on location/site or framework performance including safety, budget, and time.
* Review and approve tendering proposals or contract changes within delegated authority; coordinate tendering proposals or contract changes with appropriate governance per NUVIA procedures CP0402, CP0401A, and CP0905.
* Lead work winning for the location/site or framework and ensure safe, effective, and profitable delivery following contract award.
* Ensure projects comply with the NUVIA PMO and QMS frameworks and that work is executed to required standards of safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ).
* Coordinate resources (including Subcontractors) to meet NUVIA commitments and IS delivery strategy.
* Develop and coach all team members under their control; manage change associated with IS projects.
* Govern delivery of all IS projects at the nominated location/site or framework and ensure compliance with NUVIA standards and procedures for SHEQ and construction.
* Engage with the Director – Industrial Services and finance representative to provide accurate financial forecasts supporting IS strategy and performance.
* Represent IS location/site or framework at monthly management meetings with updates on operations and prospects.
* Manage all personnel involved in IS scope delivery, including Project Managers, Construction Managers, site Managers, Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveyors, Planners, Supervisors, Engineers, Operatives, and Subcontractors.
* Communicate effectively with all parties involved in the IS scope delivery, direct the IS team in the implementation of works, and produce monthly reports on progress against budgets, safety, expenditure, risks, mitigations, and opportunities.
* Ensure all personnel deployed on IS projects follow QMS standards and procedures; maintain good coordination with other NUVIA disciplines and business lines (e.g., HP&S, Engineering).
* Maintain professional communication with clients, subcontractors, regulators, and internal stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
* Manage NUVIA’s relationship with the client for the location/site or framework and undertake Personal Development Reviews (PDRs) with direct reports, ensuring development plans are reviewed and updated.
* Set objectives aligned with the IS strategy and ensure personnel at the location/site or framework are SQEP (Suitable Qualified or Experienced).
* Engage with relevant unions at locations/sites and participate in industrial relations with personnel.
* Collaborate with commercial and finance teams to ensure timely invoicing and payments.
Qualifications
* An appropriate degree level or equivalent qualification (Level 6) relevant to the role scope
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in the nuclear industry
* Minimum 10 years in a highly regulated multi‑discipline environment
* Member or Associate Member of a recognised institution (APM, CIOB, ICE, IStructE, IMechE, etc.)
* IOSH Managing Safely
* A full UK driver’s license
* Engineering or Project Management experience delivering different forms of contract
* Direct and demonstrable experience of involvement in Scaffolding & Access projects
* Knowledge of Construction, Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and duties
* Proven track record of work winning and delivery in complex construction environments
* Understanding of business profit and loss and financial reporting
* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to work under tight deadlines; client‑focused and commercially aware
Desirable
* Chartered status in a relevant discipline
* Level 6 NVQ in Construction Management with black CSCS managers card (or equivalent)
* Member of CIOB or other relevant engineering institute
* Higher qualifications with business, construction and/or engineering emphasis
