A senior compliance leadership role within the UK insurance arm of a well-established motor and general insurer. The position heads up a second-line advisory function, providing regulatory guidance to business units, supporting conduct risk management, and acting as a key deputy to the Head of Compliance.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will lead a compliance advice team, serving as the principal subject-matter expert on FCA regulatory matters across the insurance business. This includes providing pragmatic, timely regulatory interpretation; overseeing product governance and regulatory change implementation; and challenging non-financial regulatory reporting to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
The role carries responsibility for team development and capability-building, alongside active participation in senior governance forums and committees — including deputising for the Head of Department and Chief Risk Officer where needed. Building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, contributing to Board-level compliance reporting, and maintaining robust compliance documentation are also central to the position.
Candidate Profile
Candidates will need at least five years of compliance advisory experience, ideally gained within general insurance, together with people management experience in a compliance setting. A strong working knowledge of the FCA regulatory framework is essential, as is the ability to balance regulatory obligations with broader commercial objectives.
Personal attributes sought include a customer-focused mindset, strong initiative and independent judgement, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to communicate and influence credibly at Board and Committee level.
