Job Description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Early Careers Training Manager to join our team.
Managing a team of Early Careers Training Managers you will be responsible for overseeing the management and delivery of the Leonardo Helicopters UK (LHUK) trainee programmes.
You'll work closely with colleagues within Leonardo Helicopters UK and across the wider Leonardo UK to ensure that our Early Careers Schemes meet the needs of the business and are best practice.
This role is a level 7 on our internal Salary and Career Progression Framework (SC&PF).
What you’ll do as a Lead Early Careers Training Manager:
1. Manage the Early Careers Training team to ensure that the operational delivery of the apprentice, graduate and industrial placement schemes happens in line with internal and external criteria and constraints, ensuring that the team foster and expect common standards of behaviour and performance across all trainees
2. Ensure the ongoing performance management and development of the Early Careers Training team, driving tangible results and continuous improvements
3. Work with external delivery bodies such as Yeovil College to ensure that the quality of learning & teaching and the learner experience meets the company’s expectations and manage the relationship accordingly
4. Work with apprenticeship providers such as Yeovil College to agree and have approved an annual sub-contract agreement that drives the appropriate levels of improvement whilst managing and controlling costs
5. Attend external seminars/events/working groups to ensure that knowledge of early careers delivery and best practice is maintained and is up to date
6. Represent LHUK and Leonardo UK Ltd on external committees and groups to ensure that the needs of the company are reflected in national apprentice programmes and apprenticeship development
7. Attend the Leonardo UK Apprentice Strategy Group meetings and from those ensure that LHUK complies with the best practice processes and activities governing apprentice programmes, ensuring that the division is continuously improving its policies and processes
8. Seek to continuously improve the provision and delivery of early careers schemes within LHUK
9. Foster and maintain partnerships with employees, managers / senior managers, suppliers, customers and professional bodies
10. Work with the HR Business Partner team to understand the business requirements for the early careers trainee intake each year, identifying additional apprenticeship standards or placement schemes that could be introduced in order to meet the needs of the business
11. Work with internal and external stakeholders to implement the introduction of new schemes where applicable, ensuring that robust project plans are put in place to execute their delivery
12. Planning and organising standard training courses and activities for the trainees, including induction and trainee communication meetings
13. Work closely with the Learning & Development Advisor to develop and deliver appropriate training to placement supervisors within the business to ensure that they are supporting all trainees consistently and fairly
14. Act as an escalation point for all LHUK trainees to ensure that their behaviours, attitudes and performance conform to the expectations of the business. This includes but is not limited to time & attendance, disciplinary procedures and regular scheme/performance reviews
15. Liaise with the HR Business Partner team to ensure that suitable job roles have been identified for the trainees upon leaving the scheme
16. Manage the STEM and early careers training budget effectively and inside agreed parameters
17. Work closely with the UK STEM Lead and Helicopters STEM Co-Ordinator to ensure that the Helicopters STEM offering is best practice, meets the needs of the local community and is well placed to support a pipeline of talent into the organisation
18. Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the UK so that best practice solutions can be adopted, and that training schemes can be aligned where practicable
19. Where appropriate, update and advise the business on developments in UK education provision, particularly those which have an impact on current or future programmes
20. Project manage and deliver additional activities as appropriate for the business, this includes but is not limited to: Skills Bootcamps, T-Levels, Supported Internships
21. Oversee the delivery of ad-hoc trainee projects as requested by the business
22. Act as the Designated Safeguarding Officer for LHUK, and ensure that Safeguarding training is delivered to the business as required
What we need from you:
You really must have:
23. Strong, demonstrable team management and leadership skills
24. Detailed knowledge of national apprenticeship standards, funding regimes and training techniques
25. Strong interpersonal and skills, with the ability to interact and communicate confidently and professionally at all levels
26. Ability to translate business needs into actionable strategies and initiatives
27. Project Management experience and knowledge of Continuous Improvement techniques
28. Understanding of generational differences and impact that these have in the workplace
29. Understand the needs and requirements of young learners
30. Strong presentation skills and/or teaching experience
31. Coaching skills
32. Competency based interview techniques
33. Educated to HNC or equivalent
34. Knowledge of NVQs and assessment
It would be nice if you had:
35. Completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship
36. Engineering/aircraft experience
37. Computer literate (competent with company standard software, including SAP)
