We are looking for a skilled and commercially aware Estimator to join our Building & Maintenance team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for a variety
of building works, reactive maintenance, and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) projects.
This is a key role in supporting tendering, securing new business, and ensuring cost-effective delivery
across multiple contracts to grow the Company.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyse tender documents, drawings, and specifications to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates.
* Measure works, prepare schedules of rates, and produce bills of quantities where required.
* Obtain quotations from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring best value and compliance.
* Prepare tender submissions, cost plans, and budget estimates for a wide range of projects, including
reactive repairs, void refurbishments, planned maintenance, and minor works.
* Carry out site visits and surveys to assess scope of works and validate pricing assumptions.
* Identify and assess risks, opportunities, and value engineering options.
* Work closely with contracts managers, surveyors, and clients to ensure accurate project costing and
budget control.
* Maintain a strong understanding of current material, labour, and subcontractor costs relevant to the
building and maintenance sector.
* Support framework bids, tender clarifications, and post-tender negotiations.
Skills &; Experience Required
* Proven experience as an Estimator within the building and/or maintenance sector (social housing, local
authority, commercial, or facilities management contracts beneficial).
* Strong knowledge of UK construction and maintenance practices, including SOR (Schedule of Rates) and
NHF schedules.
* Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
* Excellent numerical and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills for client and stakeholder engagement.
* Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
* Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction, or Building Services (HNC/HND/Degree) are
desirable but not essential.
Salary dependant on skills and experience
