Civil Engineer – Flood Risk

Purpose & Scope of the Role
As an Engineer within our Flood Risk and Sustainable Water Engineering team, you will support the delivery of a wide range of infrastructure and development projects across the UK. Working on schemes from £0.1m to £100m, you will contribute to river engineering, flood risk solution design, hydraulic modelling, hydrology assessments, and drainage strategies including SuDS and natural flood management. You will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from early-stage optioneering and client engagement through to detailed design and project close-out, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting business growth activities.

Your technical input will help clients navigate complex planning and environmental requirements, while your collaboration and mentoring will strengthen team capability and project outcomes.
Core Capabilities
* Technical Expertise: Experience in Hydraulics and Hydrology, Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering, Nature-Based and Sustainable Design and Field and Practical Skills
* Modelling & Digital Proficiency: Competence in GIS and Spatial Analysis, Data and Computational Skills, Programming and Automation and River and Flood Modelling
* Project Delivery & Development: Experience contributing to projects from inception through to delivery; Ability to support project management activities and assist with bids and proposals
* Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Strong report writing and presentation skills; Ability to engage with clients and multidisciplinary teams effectively
* Collaboration & Professional Growth: Team-oriented with the ability to mentor and support junior colleagues; Committed to continuous development and progression towards chartership
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Degree in a relevant discipline with experience in civil, structural or water engineering. Working towards or holding chartership with ICE or CIWEM is desirable. UK project experience is essential, along with a full UK driving licence.
Eligibility for SC clearance is advantageous.
Working Environment
This role is based in the North West, preferably Manchester, with potential flexibility for other NW locations. Hybrid working is supported. Projects are UK-wide, so occasional travel and flexibility in working hours may be required.
