Helpdesk Operator

An exciting opportunity has become available to work on the Portering Helpdesk, based at the trusts Switchboard department. The role is for a Portering Helpdesk and Transport operator at Castle Hill Hospital.

The post is to cover a Full time position participating in weekday and weekend shift coverage on a rotational basis including Bank Holiday Rota.

We are seeking a dependable and motivated individual who possesses excellent communication skills and works well under pressure. You will require a confident telephone manner and proven customer service skills.


Main duties of the job

The helpdesk role supports the co-ordination of portering resources; allocating and dispatching tasks, based on importance and urgency, as well as routine activities to support patient flow throughout our hospitals.

Answering calls from colleagues requesting non-patient transport; liaising with couriers and booking tasks.

Working as part of a team, multitasking and liaising with Trust colleagues are a key part of the role.

Portering and non-patient transport desk duties are a key function of this role which also operates from the switchboard area. Full training will be provided.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification


Education/Qualifications

* Good standard of Secondary Education to GCSE level or equivalent


Knowledge, Training & Experience

* Basic IT Skills with a Knowledge of Microsoft office-based applications
* Keyboard / Typing Skills
* Diplomacy
* Ability to work under pressure
* Knowledge of NHS Switchboard
* Switchboard / Call centre experience
* Experience of using 2-way radio communication systems
* Basic understanding of Telephone system features


Communication and Interpersonal Skills

* Customer care experience
* Experience of working within an office environment.
* Excellent communication skills both written and oral
* Ability to liaise with people at all levels, internal and external to the organisation.
* Excellent telephone skills.
* Confidence
* Professionalism always
* Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.


Other Requirements

* Must be willing to work flexibly.
* Must be willing to work unsocial hours including weekends & Bank holidays as the service requires.
