About Us

Barton Village Shop and Post Office is an independent, family run business located in the beautiful village of Barton, Richmond, North Yorkshire. The shop has previously been awarded the Yorkshire Champion in the 2019 Countryside Alliance Awards, also known as the Rural Oscars. The shop serves the local community with all necessary items as well as being the local Post Office.

We are currently seeking a Post Office / Shop Assistant to join our team for approximatly hours per week.

Main Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the role will be (but not limited to):

The Shop

* Providing excellent customer service
* Serving customers and dealing with customer questions
* Receiving, unpacking and arranging new stock from suppliers
* Arranging and labelling goods in the display shelves
* Processing customer payments at the till, including the use of a PDQ machine
* Cleaning and rearranging the store after hours
* Performing periodic stock audits to resolve any discrepancies
* Collaborating with other team members to keep the sales floor area clean and organised at all times

The Post Office

* Collecting, sorting, and delivering mail and parcels including collaborating with various courier services.
* Selling stamps, packaging, and other postal products.
* Weighing, mailing parcels and assisting with various services.
* Processing cash withdrawals, cash deposits, and cash exchange.

Although experience would be preferred, this is not essential as full training will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to work and gain experience in a Post Office and advance their own personal development.

Although there are a range of shifts avalible, you may be required to start work on some days at 7:00 am and on rare occassions you may be required to open the shop at 5:30 am however this will be discussed with you at the time.

Due to the nature of this role and employment rules set by the Post Office, applicants must be at least 18 years of age to operate the Post Office and process the purchase of alcohol / tobacco products.
