Business Analyst

Amber Labs is seeking a Business Analyst to join our growing team, this is a fully remote position based in the UK. In this role, you will work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to define business needs, shape requirements, and support delivery across UK Central Government and public sector initiatives. You will play a key role in leading the requirements lifecycle, ensuring clarity, alignment, and traceability from discovery through delivery.
This position is ideal for a Business Analyst with strong analytical capability, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and proven experience within government environments. A key focus of the role is translating requirements into clear, intuitive user interfaces and screen flows, with hands-on experience in UI design tools such as Lucidchart and a strong understanding of GDS design and delivery standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead end-to-end requirements gathering, including functional requirements, non-functional requirements (NFRs), and acceptance criteria
* Conduct as-is and to-be business process mapping, identifying gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
* Translate business and user requirements into clear, intuitive screen flows, wireframes, and UI artefacts using tools such as Lucidchart
* Work closely with designers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure user interfaces align with business needs and accessibility standards
* Manage and prioritise the Agile product backlog, collaborating with Product Owners and delivery teams
* Work with stakeholders to translate business needs into clear, concise user stories
* Facilitate workshops, interviews, and discovery sessions with technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Use JIRA and Confluence to manage requirements, track progress, and maintain clear, structured documentation
* Support Agile ceremonies and day-to-day delivery, including story refinement, writing acceptance criteria, and collaborating with developers and testers
* Ensure alignment with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards, including the GDS Service Manual and accessibility requirements
* Support risk identification, impact analysis, and change request assessment
* Collaborate with delivery, architecture, QA, and user research teams to ensure requirements are clearly understood and implemented correctly
* Produce documentation such as process flows, requirement catalogues, service specifications, wireframes, and decision logs
Essential Skills & Experience
* BPSS eligibility is essential
* Strong experience as a Business Analyst on UK Central Government or wider public sector projects
* Demonstrable experience leading structured requirements gathering phases
* Strong capability in defining NFRs, user stories, and acceptance criteria
* Hands-on experience with as-is / to-be business process mapping
* Solid understanding of Agile delivery frameworks and backlog management
* Experience using JIRA and Confluence to manage requirements, documentation, and workflows within the Atlassian ecosystem
* Proficiency in UI and screen design using tools such as Lucidchart, with the ability to translate requirements into clear, intuitive screen flows and wireframes (essential)
* Experience working within Government Digital Service (GDS) design and delivery standards, including familiarity with the GDS Service Manual and accessibility requirements
* Comfortable supporting day-to-day Agile delivery, including story refinement, writing acceptance criteria, and working closely with developers and testers
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
* Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including Product, Development, Architecture, and QA
* Strong analytical mindset and the ability to translate complex problems into clear, actionable solutions
