Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This position will require 5 days a week onsite in Chippenham.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
In this role, you will provide senior-level infrastructure support on a secure defence programme, working full time on client site in the Chippenham/Corsham area. You will take ownership of complex incidents, ensure the availability and security of critical systems, and contribute to continuous improvement across the platform. Supported by a collaborative CGI team, you’ll be trusted to apply your expertise, share knowledge, and help shape resilient, future-ready infrastructure.
You will also play a key role in proactive system maintenance, optimisation, and documentation, while participating in an on-call rota to support mission-critical services.
Key responsibilities include:
•Lead & Resolve: Provide expert support for VMware Cloud Foundation, Tanzu, Dell VxRail and Data Domain platforms
•Secure & Protect: Support key management and privileged access solutions including HashiCorp Vault, Thales HSM, BeyondTrust and Keycloak
•Optimise & Maintain: Administer Windows Server, Hyper-V, monitoring, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions
•Collaborate & Improve: Work with cross-functional teams and maintain clear, accurate technical documentation
•Support & Respond: Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota for critical infrastructure
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
You will be an experienced infrastructure professional with a strong background in secure, complex environments, ideally within Defence. You bring a proactive mindset, strong troubleshooting capability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable solutions while working effectively as part of a trusted team.
You should have:
•Existing DV (Developed Vetting) clearance
•Proven experience in a senior infrastructure or support role
•Strong knowledge of VMware, Microsoft Windows Server and hyper-converged infrastructure
•Solid understanding of networking principles
•Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
•Relevant certifications (VMware, Microsoft, Dell or security) are highly desirable
Desirable experience includes:
•Cross-domain and secure systems (e.g. Tiger Traps, Garrison, OpsWat, NiFi)
•DevOps and container technologies (GitLab, Harbor, FluxCD, Kubernetes)
•Elastic for logging and analytics
