Role Overview
Woodlands Animal Sanctuary is seeking a passionate and skilled Community Outreach Worker to lead our responsible cat welfare scheme across Lancashire and Merseyside. This is a hands-on, field-based role at the heart of our mission — reducing the suffering caused by unplanned breeding, tackling cat overpopulation, and building lasting relationships within our community.
You will use data to identify patterns, behaviours, and priority areas, translating insight into targeted, effective outreach. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse who is equally comfortable analysing trends as they are knocking on doors and having honest, compassionate conversations with cat owners.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Outreach
* Plan and deliver targeted door-to-door community outreach to promote responsible cat ownership and neutering
* Build positive relationships with residents, particularly in identified high-density or high-risk areas
* Engage owners in a professional, non-judgemental, and empathetic manner — including those resistant or initially unresponsive
* Represent Woodlands Animal Sanctuary professionally at all times within the community
Data Analysis & Target Planning
* Analyse community data to identify patterns of unneutered cat populations, repeat breeding concerns, and geographical hotspots
* Use data to prioritise and plan outreach activities, ensuring resources are directed where they will have the greatest impact
* Monitor outcomes, track neutering referrals, and report on key metrics to the management team
* Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all outreach visits, referrals, and outcomes
Veterinary & Practical Support
* Coordinate and carry out the safe collection and transportation of cats to and from veterinary practices for neutering appointments
* Ensure the welfare and safe handling of cats throughout the entire transport and care process
* Apply veterinary nursing knowledge to assess cat welfare concerns encountered during outreach
Essential Requirements
* Demonstrable experience in animal welfare outreach, community engagement, or frontline animal care
* Proven ability to analyse data, identify trends, and use insight to inform decision-making
* Excellent communication skills — confident, clear, firm, and empathetic with a wide range of people
* Full, clean UK driving licence with confidence driving independently
* Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a varied, field-based workload
Desirable
* Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) qualification
* Experience working with data tools, mapping software, or case management systems
* Background in targeted welfare campaigns or charitable sector outreach
* Knowledge of Lancashire and Merseyside and its communities
Personal Attributes
* Compassionate and resilient — motivated by making a genuine difference
* Analytical thinker who can translate data into practical action
* Confident handling challenging or sensitive conversations with professionalism and calm
* Self-motivated and reliable — able to manage time and priorities independently
* Deeply committed to animal welfare
