Job Title: Certified Pharmacy Technician
Department: Inpatient Pharmacy
Location: Rochester General Hospital
Hours Per Week: Full Time 40 Hours
Summary
Under pharmacist supervision, responds to and/or triages nursing phone calls, prepares medications orders, accurately delivers meds and restocks as necessary. Provide superior customer service by modeling the organizations values.
Responsibilities
* Efficient Medication Distribution & Documentation
Accurately rounds to nursing units and delivers medications in a timely manner; fills patient orders and emergency boxes, ensuring complete documentation, pharmacist verification, and compliance with hospital policies for narcotic handling and medication disposal.
* Pharmacy Systems & Data Management
Proficiently operates the EMR and pharmacy information systems to input data, run reports, and verify medication details; demonstrates strong recognition of medication names, abbreviations, and contraindications.
* Preparation & Compounding
Performs non-sterile compounding of oral liquids, creams, and ointments in a clean environment; pre-packs bulk medications into unit-dose packaging; and maintains equipment, cleanliness, and accurate records throughout all processes.
* Sterile IV Procedures & Aseptic Technique
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of IV preparation and aseptic technique, accurately transferring medications to IV solutions or syringes under sterile conditions and pharmacist supervision.
* Inventory, Ordering & Quality Control
Receives, verifies, and stores incoming pharmaceutical supplies; monitors stock levels and expiration dates; maintains security and environmental standards for all medications; and participates in continuous process improvement initiatives.
* Customer Service & Ambulatory Support
Provides courteous, confidential assistance to patients and customers, obtaining accurate personal, medical, and insurance information; assists with prescription filling, refills, cash register balancing, and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
* Training, Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement
Assists in onboarding and training new staff; demonstrates proficiency in using and troubleshooting ADM (Automatic Dispensing Machines); and supports initiatives that promote operational efficiency and patient safety.
Qualifications
* PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
o High School diploma or equivalent.
o Excellent oral and written communication skills for routine interaction with hospital staff.
o 1 year of work experience in a clinical, retail or healthcare setting.
* REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
o National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
o NYS OOP Registered Pharmacy Technician within 6 months of hire.

Pay Range: $19.25 - $21.50
