Research Assistant or Fellow in Predictive Maintenance of Aircraft Systems

About the Role
The purpose of this position is to support and deliver on an industry-funded project led by a major aircraft design company. Responsibilities include conducting high-quality research related to the Cranfield University project work package on AI-Enhanced Digital Twins and High-Level Reasoner Decision Support System for aircraft systems. You will integrate heterogeneous data streams (from sensory, physics models, etc.), identify impending failures, trace system faults, and optimize sensors to ensure robust condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and PHM over the aircraft's lifecycle. Additionally, you will manage research tasks, organize meetings, produce deliverables, and coordinate activities, requiring excellent interpersonal skills.
About You
You should hold a PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering for the Research Fellow role, or a Master's degree (MSc, or near completion) in one of these fields for the Research Assistant role. Experience in aircraft systems, predictive maintenance, or digital twin technologies, using qualitative and quantitative approaches, is essential. Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, organizational, and communication skills are required. Familiarity with programming tools like MATLAB or Python, aircraft systems modelling, AI applications, and simulation tools is advantageous. The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment is important, along with a commitment to high-quality research and the ability to manage priorities.
