However, for the right candidate, we are open to supporting you to gain your MPE qualification in a developmental post.

More about the role
As our Specialist Healthcare Scientist (Diagnostic and Radiation Protection), you will act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Diagnostic Radiology for the Royal Devon and collaborative partners.
You will work autonomously, planning and delivering scientific support to services using ionising and non-ionising radiations across North, East, and Mid Devon, managing approximately 200 imaging systems including x-ray, CT, and Nuclear Medicine.
Your role involves working with diverse clients, including Radiology and Cardiology departments, NHS Breast Screening Programme, community hospitals, dental and veterinary practices, and research institutions like the University of Exeter.
You will collaborate with the Lead Physicist for Diagnostic Radiology, Radiation Protection Advisers, and the Head of Clinical Radiation Physics to ensure service delivery and regulatory compliance. There will be opportunities to develop your leadership skills by deputising for the lead MPE as needed.
As part of the Clinical & Radiation Physics team, you will work closely with colleagues in Nuclear Medicine Physics, Radiation Safety, Non-ionising Physics, clinical teams, and private clients. You will also be part of the wider Medical Physics network, benefiting from regional expertise and training resources.

You should:
* Be an HCPC registered Clinical Scientist or RCT registered Clinical Technologist with extensive relevant experience
* Be a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Diagnostic Radiology, or
* Be a Clinical Scientist/Technologist with relevant experience working towards the MPE qualification (developmental post)
* Hold a valid full UK driving licence
* Have access to an appropriate vehicle for transporting test equipment within the network
Developmental Post
We are open to recruiting at Band 7 for candidates with some relevant experience, supporting your development with a tailored plan, especially if you are a registered Clinical Scientist or Technologist progressing through the MPE process.

Working hours

The advertised salary reflects the Agenda for Change 2025/6 rates, including a 3.6% pay award to be implemented later this year. If you start before the implementation, the pay will be backdated. Current pay scales are available at Pay scales for 2024/25.
