Length of employment: Job Summary: DWP is one of the largest Departments in Whitehall, managing the delivering of benefit payments to citizens totalling over £200bn annually. As a Finance Professional in Government, your role is to protect public funds and add value through finance assurance activities. The Financial Management & Partnering Directorate support the business to develop credible multi-year plans that deliver business objectives, supported by robust financial forecasts. We also work with the business to ensure that financial matters are considered in long-term policy and service delivery decisions. Financial Management & Partnering are organised into teams supporting each of the DWP Director Generals. This vacancy is for various roles throughout these teams. Job Description: As a key member of the senior finance team, the Senior Finance Business Partner will provide leadership as well as professional, evidence based decision making support, challenge, and professional advice. As a Senior Finance Business Partner, you will need to: Build and maintain key relationships, in particular developing trust and rapport. This includes managing the expectation of senior managers and stakeholders. Developing a good understanding of the business, seeking out opportunities to better understand the commercial and operational drivers. Provide strategic advice and analysis on financial impact, performance and risk to senior stakeholders and through this contribute to the strategic direction of the wider business area. This includes supporting accurate current and multi-year financial forecasts and plans. Responsibility for providing timely, accurate and clearly communicated financial management information and analysis, making full use of available data and analytics tools, to support recommendations to drive efficiency and effectiveness through value added insight and advice. Working closely with leads on major projects, policies and programmes to ensure sound business cases are developed and monitored with strong commercial focus, options appraisal risk management, internal control and that governance procedures are followed. Lead a Business Partner team effectively to ensure effective support and advice to the business, effective engagement with other Finance teams, and opportunities for continual improvement are identified and pursued. Hybrid working This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post. This job can only be worked from the UK and not overseas. The candidate will meet the following essential criteria: Lead Criteria Excellent inter-personal, communication, relationship-building and influencing skills. The professional and personal credibility to operate as a senior financial leader and adviser, generating confidence in senior stakeholders. Highly effective analytical and reasoning skills. Sound working knowledge of the key principles of financial management. The ability to procure, assemble, interpret, test and evaluate financial and business information to inform and enhance business decisions with a clear view of the financial implications. Proven ability to communicate complex financial information to a non-financial audience, including through the production of high-quality financial reports and briefings. A strong track record of delivering challenging projects at pace, prioritising longer-term work alongside shorter-term asks.
