Polytec are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Quality Engineer to join our Cambridge based client, supporting the delivery of world-class products. In this role, you will lead and take ownership of quality-driven programmes within a Lean Manufacturing environment, ensuring the highest standards across assembly, inspection and testing of precision micro-components in a cleanroom setting. You will play a key role in driving continuous improvement, supporting new product introduction (NPI) and developing robust manufacturing standards.
Responsibilities
* Analyse data from precision-manufactured parts to support prototype and concept development
* Determine pass/fail/rework decisions and carry out rework or modifications in line with approved procedures
* Develop and maintain manufacturing standards, documentation and work instructions
* Manage and maintain Quality Management Systems in line with corporate and internal standards
* Oversee change control processes (PCR, DCR, concessions, modification levels, SwBRT)
* Handle non-conformances and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions
* Support software release processes and documentation (SWS lifecycle)
* Plan and conduct internal audits (ISO9001, ISO27001)
* Monitor and report on KPIs and performance indicatorsPresent project progress, quality metrics, and improvement initiatives at all levels
* Participate in production planning and scheduling to ensure on‑time delivery
* Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations
* Maintain 5S standards within the work area
* Drive Lean initiatives and continuous improvement projects
Requirements
* Strong attention to detail with a solid understanding of Health and Safety practices
* Certified Internal Auditor (ISO9001 and/or ISO27001 preferred)
* Knowledge of regulatory standards such as RoHS, REACH, SCIP
* Proven experience with RCCA, 8D problem solving, and FMEA methodologies
* Experience using statistical analysis tools such as Minitab or JMP
* Strong practical, hands‑on engineering or manufacturing skills
* Ability to understand, implement and improve processes
* Confident interpreting engineering drawings and liaising across disciplines
* Able to follow and create work instructions
* Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently
* A collaborative team player with a continuous improvement mindset
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and/or MES systems
