About Us
Jeanius Bar Atelier transforms vintage denim into unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. From simple alterations to detailed tailoring and custom work, every garment is crafted with care and precision. Based in London, we sell online and through our Customer Studio in Hackney, where clients are fitted before their jeans are tailored at our Production Studio in Tottenham.
The Role
We are looking for two experienced freelance machinists/tailors to join our production team. You'll work on tailoring vintage denim, focusing on waist and length adjustments as well as more complex alterations such as opening up jeans to remove fabric or insert panels. This role does not require full pattern-making, but a strong understanding of seams and garment construction is essential.
You'll work closely with our Head of Production and studio assistant to deliver high-quality alterations, ensuring each pair of jeans is finished to the highest standard. While customer-facing work is not required, there may be occasional opportunities to participate in denim workshop events where tailoring is demonstrated live for clients. We invite motivated individuals who meet these criteria to apply for this exciting opportunity in our growing company.
Key Duties
* Tailor and alter vintage denim to customer specifications (average 10 pairs/day, but not a strict KPI).
* Perform waist, length, tapering, and complex adjustments using correct seams.
* Use industrial flatbed, overlock, coverstitch machines and steam irons confidently.
* Carry out occasional hand sewing (labels, appliqué pieces, tacking).
* Keep the production studio organised and equipment well maintained.
* Communicate with the Head of Production and wider team when clarification is needed.
* Bring initiative and ideas for more efficient processes or improvements to quality.
Additional Information
* Freelance contract, invoiced monthly.
* Budget: £15k per year total.
* Working hours: 3 days a week standard 10am–6pm, Monday – Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday, with flexibility possible.
* Holiday/leave: unpaid leave can be requested but is not guaranteed; work is covered between machinists to ensure smooth workflow.
* All machines provided in-house: 2 x flat machines, 1 overlock, 1 coverstitch, shared steam iron, and large cutting table.
