Advanced Paediatric Audiologist / Team Leader Paediatric Audiology

The closing date is 10 December 2025

We are looking for a Band 7 Audiologist or Clinical Scientist (Audiology) to join the paediatric audiology team at Oxford University Hospitals on a fixed term basis for 1 year to cover maternity leave. We are pleased to have been rated as "Full assurance" in our ICB/NHS England review earlier this year. This is an ideal post for an experienced Paediatric Audiologist / Clinical Scientist who would like to further develop their leadership, management and advanced clinical skills. You will be working alongside our other team leaders, reporting to the Head of Paediatric Audiology. The post is funded at 0.53 WTE (19.8 hrs/week).

Main duties of the job

The role is primarily concerned with the delivery of advanced clinical practice in paediatric audiology including behavioural testing in children considered non-routine, objective testing, and hearing aid fitting and verification. In addition, the post carries line‑management responsibility. The post holder will work closely with the Head of Paediatric Audiology in developing the service. He/she will be expected to supervise, coach and mentor junior members of staff to ensure that a consistently high quality clinical service is provided. Time has been allocated for the leadership, management, training and service development aspects of the role.

You will be an audiologist with BSc or PTP in audiology with additional training in paediatric audiology, or a Clinical Scientist (Audiology) and must be registered with HCPC as a Clinical Scientist or AHCS as an Audiologist. Evidence of further specialist training and experience in paediatric audiology in an NHS context is expected, including provision of hearing aids. You will have highly developed skills in undertaking developmentally appropriate audiological assessments in children of all ages, including those considered non-routine. In addition, experience in performing ABRs following referral from NHSP is desirable.

About us

OUH is one of the UK's largest teaching hospital trusts. We provide a comprehensive paediatric audiology service including assessing babies referred from the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme, the behavioural and objective assessment of children of all ages and the habilitation of children with hearing loss. The paediatric audiology service sits alongside a busy adult audiology service and our Auditory Implant Programme. You would be joining a large team comprising Audiologists, Assistant Audiologists, Clinical Scientists (Audiology), Hearing Therapists and administrative colleagues. We are actively involved in training and have colleagues on degree apprenticeship, PTP and STP programmes, with all staff having regular CPD opportunities. The service has undergone significant development over recent years and is actively working towards IQIPS accreditation. You will be based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and may be required to undertake clinics at a variety of locations around the county including Banbury and Didcot. The department offers flexible working arrangements.
