We are seeking to appoint a Project Officer to support the Nuclear Graphite Research Group (NGRG). The post will be based in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

Chaired by Prof Abbie Jones, the NGRG has established itself as a world-leading group in nuclear graphite and located within the Henry Royce Institute for advanced materials research. The NGRG have expertise in current Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (AGR) core behaviour, next generation graphite development and nuclear graphite waste management. This research has contributed to two 4* Research Excellence Framework impact cases (REF 2015, 2021). In addition, Prof Jones leads a £13.2M EPSRC funded Programme consortium “ENLIGHT - Enabling a Lifecycle Approach to Graphite for Advanced Modular Reactors”, a five-year programme accelerating innovation in next-generation nuclear technologies. It aims to deliver critical RD&I to advance the UK’s world-leading graphite expertise transitioning from Advanced Gas-cooled Reactors (AGRs) to Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs).

The NGRG is now the largest Nuclear Graphite research group in the UK with more than 20 academic, postdoctoral research, and postgraduate research members.

Reporting to Project Manager and working with the Chair of the NGRG, the Project Officer role will ensure that the NGRG leadership and wider research group receive support in the delivery of project tasks, primarily associated to our ONR contract and support to further NGRG contracts.

The Project Officer will be the primary point of contact on a wide range of administrative aspects, including coordinating activity across project technical areas, project meetings, review meetings, resource monitoring, recruitment, organising engagement events and workshops, internal and external communications and dissemination activities.
