Project Officer (East Suffolk)

£26,000 per year pro rata (0.6 FTE)

Part-time, 21 hours per week

Fixed term for 12 months

Based in East Suffolk as a home working role

Overview

Our client empowers people with the skills they need to succeed in life. They work with volunteers across East Suffolk to support reading and writing initiatives and to change lives through words.

What You’ll Be Doing

Our client’s project identifies, trains and supports volunteers to design new and exciting ways to promote reading and writing across communities. You will support and coordinate the programme in and around East Suffolk, working with the national team and education-focused teams. You will develop strategies for recruiting volunteers and mobilising key community partnerships to increase reach and build sustainability. You will also organise and deliver training events, maintain regular contact with volunteers, gather data, share learning and develop case studies to build an evidence base of impact. You will be based in East Suffolk, working from home with regular local travel, and international travel when necessary. This will include attending London-based staff days three times per year for induction, and three team days per year in other locations. All travel expenses are covered.

What Our Client Is Looking For

You will be experienced in recruiting, training and supporting volunteers, and providing project support in a charity or educational context. You will also have excellent knowledge of volunteer management and safeguarding practice in this context, and experience of developing resources and training materials. Experience of community mobilisation and event planning would be an advantage, as would knowledge of working with nurseries, schools and/or community-based organisations. You will need to live in East Suffolk and have good knowledge of the area. A full clean driving licence and access to your own vehicle are required. This role will also involve managing book stocks and other resources.

Why Our Client’s Work Is Vital

Reading and writing change everything. They provide tools to get the most out of life and to shape the future. They support better outcomes at school and in work. If children grow up without the tools to communicate, without books to read or opportunities to write, it’s harder to reach goals. They help people overcome challenges and change life chances through the power of words – reading, writing, speaking and listening, from first words through school days to training, jobs and beyond.

* They work collaboratively in local communities, focusing on areas facing the biggest challenges.
* They support schools with effective tools and programmes to engage and inspire children.
* They campaign to prioritise reading and writing for politicians and decision-makers.
* They support vulnerable adults, people in the criminal justice system and young offenders’ institutions to build skills.

What Our Client Offers You

Their team is passionate about their mission and they have a strong, positive working culture based on shared values and respect. Flexible working options are available, and the organisation promotes a workplace where you can be yourself and contribute to success.

In addition to a competitive salary, benefits include a generous leave allowance totalling 39 days (including bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and New Year), pension contributions of 8% of annual salary, a cycle to work scheme, an employee assistance programme and other health and wellbeing benefits. Flexible working is supported.
